Case Study
Argonne National Laboratory, located in Lemont Illinois, is a U.S. Department of Energy laboratory managed by UChicago Argonne LLC. For years, scientists have pursued the vision of a sustainable and adaptive “built environment.” Such an environment would include “smart buildings” that can interface with the energy systems that power them and with building occupants. Today, Argonne National Laboratory is working to bring this vision closer to reality. Achieving and sustaining energy savings depends on advances in energy management—for example, the ability to exploit occupancy, energy prices, and weather trends when optimizing building system performance.
